Sparśa
48 x 30” Original mixed media on canvas

sparsa

Sparśa is a Sanskrit word and can be translated as "contact", “touching" or “sensation”. It is not a piece meant to be rationalized but rather experienced. In this piece, Antoine explores the threshold of vulnerability and strength, of comfort and pain.

Expressionistic splatters and fast lines are juxtaposed to a softness in the hands with highlights of soft pale yellow. The figures appear from a mystic dark space, leaving it up to the viewer to complete the piece/moment/story.  There is also a notable contrast between splatter, where control is surrendered, and against areas where touch takes place which is delicate and soft.   The large scale of this piece also allows the viewer to feel present in the moment.
