Upcoming Exhibitions

In my last newsletter I mentioned that during October I would be taking part in two exhibitions in England. The first will be with i2 Art Gallery in Saffron Walden, October 10th until November 21st and the second with The Bronze Gallery in Hartley Wintney opening Oct 9th. While living in East Sussex in 2001 and in London in 2002, I developed a deep affection for England’s historical architecture, beautiful countryside as well as British life and culture, (not to mention all my special friends). Hence I am really looking forward to this visit!

Nudes in Nature

During June I was fortunate to be able to spend five days traveling through Utah and doing several outdoor shoots from Moab to the Salt Flats. This was a new chapter to my photography and one in which there is still much to be written. I believe no matter what your line of work is, it is sometimes good to push your limits and move outside of your comfort zone. This is exactly what this was for me. Photography is a relatively new medium to me. At first I only used it for reference studies and conceptual work but it slowly developed into becoming a medium in itself. Today I know I am a mere toddler in the world of Fine Art Photography, however while exploring, I am also as excited as a toddler with a new toy box. I can’t talk about this trip without giving credit to Ben, Callie and Callie’s husband. What an exceptional group.

Going below the surface

I’ve been hoping to take on underwater photography for the last four years. I first had to do my Open Water Diver’s license, then invested in a camera housing and lighting equipment. Finally I also did my Advanced Diver’s license while in Mexico a few months ago. While in Utah, Ben and I did some trials and in July I did my first underwater shoot with Artemis & Sage. As I downloaded the results I felt a knot in my throat and knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that I would be taking this much further. There were several technical and practical issues to overcome, but three days ago I did a second underwater shoot with Tantila & Diablo, two amazing models from Indianapolis. Today I am more excited than ever and can not wait for the next opportunity. (While daydreaming about a entire underwater studio...)

Challenging times

As we all know New Orleans, one of my favorite North American cities, is withstanding another vast challenge with hurricane Gustav. As 2 million people evacuated and we’re all holding our breaths that this time the levees will stand, I decided to launch another ten-day charity campaign. From Sept 1 – 10, I am auctioning one artwork every day on eBay. This will consist both out of originals and limited edition giclee prints and all auctions will start at 99c with no reserves. 100% of the proceeds will go to charities involved in hurricane relieve as well as Africa aid. Being a child of South Africa, this continent’s tremendous challenges will always be a topic close to my heart.

New work

Together with this Newsletter, I am also releasing 9 new pieces, all of which have been added to my ‘For Sale’ section. Many of these pieces will be shipped to England shortly, however I am offering them to my newsletter subscribers first.

Furthermore, I have also released large scale giclee prints of 'Sigma' as well as 'Desolate'.

Regards,
